The power of
time with
horses

Time spent with horses provides a safe and therapeutic environment for clients and therapists alike. During EAP sessions, clients engage in activities with one or more horses, utilizing these magnificent animals to process their feelings, thoughts, and reactions. Horses act as giant "biofeedback machines," enabling therapists to gain valuable insights into clients' motives, reactions, and abilities.

The significant size difference between horses and humans is a key element in equine-assisted therapy, teaching vital lessons in human psychology. This disparity means that humans cannot use force to control these large animals. Successful interactions in therapy require understanding, calmness, emotional self-control, and skill, crucial for effective communication and cooperation with horses. These interactions offer valuable insights and therapeutic benefits, making these qualities essential in equine-assisted therapy.

Lessons from Horses
& Farm Chores

Our approach goes beyond traditional therapy. We believe in the importance and value of incorporating farm chores and taking care of horses as part of the healing process. It's not just about therapy sessions; it's about a holistic approach to well-being. Here's how:

  • Responsibility: Children and adults alike learn the importance of responsibility by caring for horses and completing farm chores. Feeding, grooming, and mucking out stalls teach individuals the significance of daily tasks and commitment.

  • Empathy: Interacting with horses fosters empathy. Understanding the needs and emotions of these animals helps individuals develop a sense of empathy that can extend to their relationships with people.

  • Communication: Horses communicate non-verbally, teaching individuals the importance of clear and effective communication. Learning to read a horse's body language can improve interpersonal skills.

  • Patience: Horses don't always respond immediately, teaching individuals patience and the value of persistence in achieving their goals.

  • Stress Reduction: The calming presence of horses and the soothing rhythm of farm chores can significantly reduce stress and anxiety, contributing to overall mental well-being.
